What is plant-based?
Plant-based foods come from plants, rather than animals. They are dairy-free, egg-free, and meat-free. Plant-based foods are better for you, better for the environment, and so much kinder to animals (seriously, have you Googled factory farming?).
Why organic? And what about GMO?
Non-organic foods contain pesticides which are toxic, and therefore harmful when consumed. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found that these chemicals can be toxic to the nervous system, are endocrine (hormone) disruptors, and carcinogenic – meaning they increase the risk of cancer.
“Organic” also equates to non-GM0, meaning our foods have not been genetically modified.
How will shipping be handled?
Until we get our online shipping established, please email us at: email@example.com. Prior to shipping, we will provide various shipping options and pricing based on your location.
Where do you get your nuts?
Our nuts and seeds come from various places around the world. Our organic wholesaler operates on a fair-trade model and independently tests each imported ingredient rather than relying on industry standards. Certain nuts, such as almonds, are sourced from places (Spain) where pasteurization is not required – heat pasteurization can damage the composition of healthy fats.
Why is slow roasting better?
Nuts and seeds contain healthy fats that are good for the body. Roasting nuts on a high temperature can damage these heart healthy fats, and not only do you lose the health benefits, the fats can become altered and harmful. Roasting on a lower temperature for a longer period of time protects the fats while still allowing for a nut that crunches.
What’s your take on using coconut oil?
Coconut oil can be controversial and as a nutrition consultant, I recommend using it in moderation - especially if you have any liver and gallbladder issues. There are some well-studied benefits to coconut oil like: supporting the immune system, reducing inflammation, supporting brain function, and improving energy and endurance. However, if you’re leery of coconut oil, we get it. Because we’re [still] a small company we’re able to do special orders and can work with your oil of choice, noting the flavor profile might be impacted. Currently we only used coconut oil in our granola.
